Do you know someone who is prone to exaggerate?

Are you prone to exaggerate? Do you use phrase like “all the time?” Or “always?” Or “never.” I realize that in many cases when people use “always” or “all” they are often exaggerating. But when the Scriptures use it to describe who God is, you can count on it being literal and I would pay close attention.

Paul said that Colossians 2:9, that Jesus contains all the fullness of God in his body. The fullness of the godhead means that Jesus is fully divine while he is also in his human body. In some way, as the Father and the Holy Spirit are divine, who God is dwelled fully in Jesus. Yet at the same time where God is One, in his oneness he remains three persons. Of course there is some mystery to how the Triune God exists as three in one.

But what I want us to see today is, Jesus is the key to us living fully in the presence of God, because in Him God fully dwelled. Jesus was the presence of God manifest for us. And Paul goes on to say that we are complete in Jesus Christ. In Christ, who has all of the fullness, we are totally complete in him. Our completeness comes in the relationship we have with the completeness of who God is in Christ.

Jesus is the head of all the spiritual forces in the universe as we read here and we find our completeness as believers in him. This is an awesome privilege for us. Jesus contains the all of God’s presence and character in his divinity while also becoming like us in his humanity. Then in the all that he is we become the all that we can be: complete in him. Or we could say that in all of his fullness we become all of our completeness.

All of our life and everything that we need is in Christ. We don’t “arrive” in life apart from Christ. The key to everything in life is experiencing all the fullness of God that has been made available to us through Christ alone. Being a person of the presence is not about striving or achieving but its about our connectedness to being in Christ.

Beloved, you are complete in Christ, in whom dwells all the fullness of the Godhead.

Father God, thank you for the precious gift of Christ. May I continue to live in wonder of all who you are Lord Jesus and find my completeness in you. Thank you for coming to us in all the fullness of God that we might experience all of who you are. I love your presence Jesus. There is no one like you. In Jesus name, amen.
