Day #79 - I AM the Way, the Truth and the Life
The Presence - A Devotional for Living in Thanksgiving, Worship and Wonder
“Jesus answered, “I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.”
John 14:6 NIV
Are you the kind of person who asks for directions?
My wife really enjoys having her map on her phone to guide her, even if its a familiar area. But what I really find humorous about my wife is the way that she gives directions with confidence. If I ask which way do I go, she loves to give me an answer. If I ask, “what way do I go?” She might reply strongly, “to the left.” Then we may discover this was the wrong way and she will remind me that I didn’t ask if she knew what way to go but rather, I just asked which way to go.
Jesus is more than a life coach or personal mastery director trying to help you find your way in life and give you directions. Jesus is the way. He is the truth. He is the life. Jesus doesn’t only direct our way, he is the way. He not only speaks truth, he is truth. He not only give life, he is life.
If you have become a person that dwells in the presence of Jesus than you know Jesus is more than just an idea or philosophy. Thomas a Kempis said, “Without the way, there is no going; without the truth, there is no knowing; without the life, there is no living.” Jesus is actually the way to live, the truth to know and the life to live.
Christianity is all about Jesus. To be a Christian or a follower of Christ, is to make Jesus your way, your truth, and your life. You can’t experience salvation and go your own way, have your own truth and hold on to your own life. Christianity is about the exchange of Christ’s life for yours. Making Jesus the way you go, the truth you know and the life you live starts with surrender of your own self will. To become a Christian is to turn from your way of sin and put your faith in Jesus.
I’ve found Christ to be beautiful and I love his presence. I love to sit before the Lord and to contemplate how he is the way. I love to meditate on his words and know him as the truth. I love to experience his nearness and encounter his divine life. The manifest presence of God is the nearness of his person. We need to understand and know more of who he is so we know the one that draws near to us.
As the old song by Lenny LeBlanc goes, “I could search for all eternity long, and find, there is none like you.” A person of the presence knows there is no one like our Lord Jesus, who is the way, the truth and the life. You can search for the deepest meaning but the search ends and begins in Jesus, the I AM.
Jesus, I turn to you from my way of sin and confess that you are the way, the truth and the life. I want to be a Christian, a follower of you my Lord Jesus Christ. I want to live in that place of your presence. You are my way. You are the deeper meaning of truth that I seek. You are my life. I surrender to you the great I AM. In your name Lord, amen.
He IS the way, the truth and the life. Without Him there is no life, no truth, absolutely nothing. He is the way to the presence of God and no matter what we may think, feel or try there really is no other way.
"Making Jesus the way you go, the truth you know and the life you live starts with surrender of your own self will." Amen!! ✝🙏🕊
