Day #67 - Lavish Love
The Presence - A Devotional for Living in Thanksgiving, Worship and Wonder
“See what great love the Father has lavished on us, that we should be called children of God! And that is what we are! The reason the world does not know us is that it did not know him.”
1 John 3:1 NIV
What would it look like to be lavished by love?
Would you consider it lavish love if someone gave you lots of money? Or if someone wrote you all sorts of encouraging letters? How about if someone forgave you and helped you immensely after you wronged them? How far would the love have to go to feel like you received lavish love?
God the Father has lavished his great love upon us because he has called us children of God! That is who we truly are if we are believers in the Lord Jesus. John in his letter says this is the reason we are not known by the world because they do not know our Heavenly Father.
A Christian is brought about by the lavish love of Father God! Our faith and our salvation is a product of the rich love of God towards us.
If you have faith in Jesus and have become a child of God, you have received the love of Father God. And by the way, you have not received scraps from your Father’s table. You are not a second class child of God. You don’t need to worry or analyze whether God really loves you or not. We can easily assess whether we are loved or not based upon our feelings or circumstances in our life. But if we look to the reality that we are a child of God, it proves that we are greatly loved by God.
People will do just about anything to be unconditionally loved, but God lavishes love on us. The search for love is over when you know who you are in the Father’s eyes. What a privilege that we are children of God. What confidence we can have to come into God’s presence and be reminded of this love.
We will not fit in with the world as children of God, so don’t go looking for validation where you will not find it. We have the validation of God on our lives. Our need for belonging is settled through the Father’s love.
Father, I come into your presence today boldly because I know that I am your child. You have lavished your love upon me. May I resist going to the world for validation when I have already been the recipient of your generous love. I belong with you. Your presence is a place of affirmation as your child. Thank you for making me your own. In Jesus name, amen.
Because of your love, Lord, I know that I am loved, I am seen, I am valued, and I am enough. Thank you, Abba Father. 🙏
Thank you Lord for loving me even in the times when I don’t feel very lovable. I love you Papa God. ♥️🙏🏻
