Day #58 - Promise Keeper
The Presence - A Devotional for Living in Thanksgiving, Worship and Wonder
“Then said Jehovah unto me, Thou hast well seen: for I watch over my word to perform it.”
Jeremiah 1:12 ASV
Who do you know that is the most reliable at keeping a promise?
We really only trust people as well as they keep their promises, don’t we? I was fortunate to grow up with parents that kept their word. No human is perfect at keeping every promise, but they were really good. A lot of people have grown up with friends, parents, family or peers that don’t keep their word. My Dad would tell me that when he was growing up people would go to the greatest lengths to keep their word. The previous generation knew that their name was only as reliable as their word.
I have shared recently about the Lord being the God who sees and hears. But he not only hears and watches us, we learn in Jeremiah 1 that he also watches over his own word. God is actively looking over his promises that he has made in the past to perform them in the present and the future.
Maybe you can’t remember all of God’s promises to you, but God remembers all of his promises. How amazing is that God not only does what he says, but he actively watches over what he has promised that he might fulfill it.
Do you keep a journal of the important things that happen in your life? I wonder if God keeps a journal of his promises to us? Of course the ultimate record of his promises is the Bible, nothing compares with the Scriptures. But we also see glimpses in the Scripture that heaven contains scrolls. However God does it, you can count on him to watch over what he has spoken so that he will do it.
You can trust God. You can trust his promises. He is good and faithful to follow through with what he says. He is not a God who speaks and forgets. He manages the universe and hold it together. There are 7.8 billion people on the earth at the time of this writing and he knows everything that he has ever spoken while he interacts with us all. There is no one like our God.
You can take his promises to the bank. He will do what he said he will do. You can believe him. He is a promise keeper. He is a watcher over his word.
Father God, Thank you so much for who you are. Thank you that I can trust you because you do what you say you will do. You are a promise keeper. There is no one like you. I love your presence. I love being with you because you are always faithful and true. Everything you say is reliable. Thank you for not forgetting your promises over my life. In Jesus name, amen.
