Day #52 - Strong Tower
The Presence - A Devotional for Living in Thanksgiving, Worship and Wonder
“The name of the Lord is a strong tower; The righteous run to it and are safe.”
Proverbs 18:10 NKJV
What is the safest place you have ever been?
When God restored my identity from a shame based view of myself I was facing so much mental anguish and spiritual warfare. I had lived for several years in an addictive behavior that was sinful. God had mercy on me and set me free. I found a refuge in the Lord and discovered him to be a strong tower I could run to when feeling overwhelmed with depressing or anxious thoughts.
Its one thing to know about God but its another thing to know him personally. We can have all the right doctrine and ideas about who God is (which is important) but our faith should matter as it matters in battle. Spiritual warfare is a reality for believers and we have been guaranteed victory through Christ. However, many Christian often live in defeat because they don’t know how to dwell in the character of the Lord as their strong tower.
My friend Todd White used to say, “Some say God is a crutch, but I’ve found him to be a strong tower.” I’ve experienced the same thing. I learned that when I felt weak and beat up emotionally I could run into the the presence of the Lord and begin to proclaim his name. I could feel the tide turn in my depression and anxiety when I would start to confess who the Lord is and take refuge in him.
What does taking refuge in the Lord look like? It means taking time to be with him in worship and devotion. Its about taking time to meditate on the word of God and the nature of the Lord. Its about turning our affection off of ourselves or other things and turning the attention of our heart to who God is.
He is a strong tower. He is a place of safety. He is a refuge from life’s storms. He is a refuge from battle. He is a place of peace in a world of chaos. His name reveals his nature. As you proclaim and worship his name as he has revealed himself you come under the protection of his character.
Do you need rescue or peace or safety? Run into the the Lord’s presence by spending time with him and proclaiming his name. My favorite way to pray is by spending time declaring who God is over my life, my family, my church, my city or my circumstances. It’s time to run into the presence of the Lord and experience the strength of his name!
Lord, you are my strong tower! I run to you. I can trust you. You are good. I am safe with you. Thank you for the protection of your presence and the power of your name! There is no one like you! Teach me how to dwell with you. I choose to get my eyes off of my problems and to get my eyes upon you. May I see things from your perspective. Thank you for your help in my life. I love you Jesus, amen!

I needed that prayer right now!!!
Yes and amen. He is my hiding place, my strong tower, He goes before me and comes behind me and I am safe in His presence. He is the rock on which I stand, my firm foundation. He is my refuge and my calm in the storm, my fortress. He is my secret place. He is my God and I will praise Him, my father's God and I will exalt Him.💜🙏🔥
