Day #298 - The Commanded Blessing
The Presence - A Devotional for living in Thanksgiving, Worship and Wonder
“Behold, how good and how pleasant it is For brethren to dwell together in unity! It is like the precious oil upon the head, Running down on the beard, The beard of Aaron, Running down on the edge of his garments. It is like the dew of Hermon, Descending upon the mountains of Zion; For there the Lord commanded the blessing— Life forevermore.”
Psalms 133:1-3 NKJV
What do you think is something that is so attractive that its almost magnetic?
Have you ever laid a trap to catch fruit flies or bees? I’ve used peanut butter to trap mice many times. For humans in a positive sense, I think being kind is attractive. I know that if I clean the dishes I will attract praise from my wife. If my children listen to me and really take to heart what I’ve said, they will attract my favor. Of course there are things we can do to make ourselves physically attractive to one another as well.
God is attracted to something in an almost magnetic way. He is attracted to unity. He cannot stay away from His people when we are unified together. Unity attracts “the Presence.” Unity brings the commanded blessing of the Lord.
In Psalm 133, David is sharing one of the most powerful truths about the corporate presence of God in the Scriptures. When we live in unity David says it is like anointing oil that runs down the beard and garment of Aaron. Aaron was the high priest of Israel. Somehow, when we are unified as God’s people we have a priestly ministry. The high priest ministered to the Lord in His presence.
This unity also brings God’s blessing like the dew of Hermon upon the mountains of Zion. This dew brought fruitfulness. When we are unified we touch the Lord’s heart so that He blesses the fruitfulness of our lives. We encounter Him together in a way that we don’t encounter Him alone. He blesses us together in a way that He doesn’t bless alone.
Unity causes us to live under the commanded blessing of the Lord. Can you picture what that’s like? What kind of presence and power is available to believers who unify in the name of Lord? Is this not of the utmost importance that we love and honor one another in such a way that we can come together as one? Do we want to be anointed, fruitful and blessed?
Coming together as a church with a single heart and single mind to love God and love one another creates an environment where God’s commanded blessing comes upon us and we attract Him. He can’t stay away from our unity. Anything is possible there in “the Presence.”
Lord God, let me live in unity with Your people. Let me love and honor my brothers and sisters in Christ. I want to dwell in unity that we might live under Your commanded blessing. Anoint my church like Aaron the high priest and make us fruitful like the mountains of Zion. Do a supernatural work in us Your people as we unify in Your presence. In Jesus name, amen.

Amen! It also shows Jesus to the world. John 13: 35
