Day #282 - David’s Dream
The Presence - A Devotional for living in Thanksgiving, Worship and Wonder
“After the king was settled in his palace and the Lord had given him rest from all his enemies around him, he said to Nathan the prophet, “Here I am, living in a house of cedar, while the ark of God remains in a tent.” Nathan replied to the king, “Whatever you have in mind, go ahead and do it, for the Lord is with you.””
2 Samuel 7:1-3 NIV
Have you ever had a dream of doing something great?
I had many dreams growing up of doing great things. I dreamed of being a firefighter and saving people’s lives by rescuing them from fires. I dreamed of being an inventor and solving problems that people didn’t know they had while making lots of money off of my inventions. I dreamed of making the game winning shot at the buzzer or game winning hit in the last inning. I think we have all dreamed of doing something great in our lives.
King David had a dream in His heart to build a temple, a house for the Lord. It’s difficult to tell if David actually realized that His dream was a part of God’s eternal plan for Jerusalem. David wanted to build a temple in what was called the City of David and what would be called Jerusalem hundreds of years later.
This Tent where the Ark of the Covenant rested was also known as the place of Zion. Many of David’s Psalms refer to Zion or Mount Zion. This is the place that David and those in his Tabernacle encountered “the Presence” as they ministered to the Lord around the clock. This place of worship and of the dwelling place of God would become the city of the Great King. This city Jerusalem with the Temple built there would become the place where Jesus suffered and died on the cross, was buried and rose again and where He will return one day when He comes back to establish His kingdom.
David was called by the Lord, “a man after My own heart (Acts 13:22). The Lord forbid David from building the Temple because of all of the blood that David shed in war, but He allowed him to prepare for it so his son Solomon could build it. But even in all of David’s failures and bloodshed, the Lord still saw David as a man after His own heart. David partnered with the dream of God for His presence and saw in his times alone with the Lord the coming Messiah. So much came out of David’s time in the presence of the Lord, that Jesus is even called the Son of David.
Our times in “the Presence” are all owed to David’s obedience and partnership with the heart of God. There is no telling what vision may arise in our heart as we fellowship with the Son of David. We can host God’s presence like David did through continual praise and worship. Time alone with our King awakens in us the dream that God has for our lives that just might benefit others as well.
Lord Jesus, Son of David, You are the King of kings and Lord of lords. I worship You. Let me dream the dreams that come from partnership with Your heart. I want to dwell with You now, while I await for Your return to the great city Jerusalem one day. You are worthy of my worship and my obedience. In Jesus name, amen.

So encouraging! "We can host God’s presence like David did through continual praise and worship. Time alone with our King awakens in us the dream that God has for our lives that just might benefit others as well." I love how God loved David (n spite of all his sins) and how David loved God.
Yes Lord! 🙏🏻♥️
