Day #28 - Awestruck Revival
The Presence - A Devotional for living in Thanksgiving, Worship and Wonder
“The whole earth is filled with awe at your wonders; where morning dawns, where evening fades, you call forth songs of joy.”
Psalms 65:8 NIV
What would it take to get you to live a life that is awestruck again?
I love the lyrics from Awestruck Revival by Gable Price and Friends:
Grinning like a child
Soaking in the sun
Running in a circle
Like I’m happy and young
Awestruck revival ain’t no youthful hearts fray
If your soul is on fire
Don’t doubt it will stay
How quickly we can lose our sense of awe and wonder. We truly need an awestruck revival.
Have you ever heard the way some seasoned saints talk to young Christians? “Oh, you are in the honeymoon phase, this kind of excitement you are experiencing won’t last.” “You won’t always feel this way about God.” “You need to be careful. The Christian life isn’t a sprint, you better settle down.” What is wrong with us that we are conditioning Christians to live mundane and dry in their spiritual lives? Should we not fan the flame of living a life of awe instead of quenching it?
Of course, faith must be rooted in something more than our emotions and believers will face trials that require preparation. But I believe we can live in the power of awe when we start to slow down and pay attention to the wonders that are around us everyday. As the Psalmist said, “the whole earth is filled with awe at your wonders.” Meditate on that phrase for a minute.
I remember another minister warning me that our job as pastors was not to inspire people. I thought that was such a hollow instruction about ministry. Albert Einstein said, “Live your life as if nothing is a miracle, or everything is a miracle.” I want to live an inspired life and I want to inspire others to see everything as a miracle and live awestruck lives as we all behold the goodness of God.
I hope that we recover a culture of awe, that the joy of our youth and the wonder of our first love would cause us live daily in “The Presence.”
Take that drive into the sunset. Listen to music that makes you teary eyed. Go by the water and watch the waves. Read a book or a poem that stirs your passions for God. Visit an art gallery. Choose to look at the miracles of creation and creativity everyday from the change of the seasons, the intricacies of architecture, the laughter of children or how amazing things are that we often we take for granted like electricity.
Creator God, give me an awestruck revival that I might live in the goodness of your glory. I want to live before your presence as a child seeing everything as amazing and miraculous. Captivate my heart and restore the wonder of who you are. Let not my passions fade but take me deeper into the awe of beholding you. In Christ’s name, amen.
Do you yourself a favor and listen to my favorite rendition of Awestruck Revival:
Our Lord wants us to experience JOY in Him and His creation, like a little child - great reminder of that - thank you!
Thank you for doing this everyday. These are so uplifting, encouraging and inspiring. Yes Lord give me awestruck revival. I want to always be in awe of you, filled with passion and zeal for you. I want to be filled with awe at your creation, of your glory, in awe of You always, in Jesus's name amen . BTW...loved the song. Had to listen to it a couple times.
