Day #255 - Flow
The Presence - A Devotional for living in Thanksgiving, Worship and Wonder
““In that day the mountains will drip new wine, and the hills will flow with milk; all the ravines of Judah will run with water. A fountain will flow out of the Lord’s house and will water the valley of acacias.”
Joel 3:18 NIV
Have you ever been in the flow of God’s presence?
It’s hard to describe the flow of “the Presence” in some ways. In the 1990s when revival broke out in Toronto, there was a lot of river language that was used to describe what was happening. I remember we would sing songs like “Let the River” and “The River is Here” around that time. I used to think it kind of strange to use language that was so metaphorical and to me seemed to lack practicality. But when I started to experience the power and presence of the Holy Spirit with increased measure, I realized why people started to talk like this. There is flow of God’s presence available to everyone through the Holy Spirit. The river is a glorious place where we experience the glory of God in tangible ways.
In Joel 3, God promises an overflow of abundance where there will be new wine, milk, water and fountain will overflow from the Lord’s house to the valley. The overflow and outpouring in Joel have to do with the rain, the fountain and the river of God. The water, “the Presence,” flows from the Lord’s house to this valley. The valley of acacias is a dry and barren place. Acacias are a light and hard wood that never decay. “The Presence” never decays.
God is sending His water to the barren and hard to reach places. His flow will go and bring life and refreshing to people and places that seem resistant. When you get in the flow of the Spirit, then you become a conduit and source of living water for others. This is the pattern of revival and awakening. The believer, the family or the church experiences a renewal in the flow of God’s Spirit and what starts to work in us can then work through us to touch others.
Be desperate for the flow of God’s presence in your life. Its not only you who will be blessed but everyone that comes in contact with the flow in your life. I’ve experienced the Christian life without the flow of “the Presence” and with the flow. Once I have experienced His nearness and glory in the flow, I never want to go without Him again. His presence brings restoration and life to all He touches.
Lord, flow through me! I want to experience the fullness of the new wine, the milk and the water. Let a fountain create a river and flow in me, my family and my church to touch the dry and dead places around us. I need Your presence. Your presence is life to me. Let me live in the flow of Your Spirit. In Jesus name, amen.
