Day #252 - Double Portion
The Presence - A Devotional for living in Thanksgiving, Worship and Wonder
“And so it was, when they had crossed over, that Elijah said to Elisha, “Ask! What may I do for you, before I am taken away from you?” Elisha said, “Please let a double portion of your spirit be upon me.” So he said, “You have asked a hard thing. Nevertheless, if you see me when I am taken from you, it shall be so for you; but if not, it shall not be so.” Then it happened, as they continued on and talked, that suddenly a chariot of fire appeared with horses of fire, and separated the two of them; and Elijah went up by a whirlwind into heaven. And Elisha saw it, and he cried out, “My father, my father, the chariot of Israel and its horsemen!” So he saw him no more. And he took hold of his own clothes and tore them into two pieces.”
II Kings 2:9-12 NKJV
Have you ever benefited from someone else ahead of you?
One of the defining moments of my life as a young man was when God called me to follow in my Dad’s footsteps into the work of the ministry. I was at a conference at a large church and they asked for everyone to come to the prayer line that night with one specific request. My friends Todd and Rick asked me what I was going to ask God for in the prayer line that night. I had nothing on my mind. Rick prophesied, “you are supposed ask God for the mantle on your Dad’s life to come upon you.” I doubled over in tears and travail as I felt the call of God stir within me. Todd added to the word, “it will be a double portion like from Elijah to Elisha.”
I went to tell my Dad the next day at his office what happened. I was still so overcome by the Spirit of God I was crying and could barely speak. My Dad’s Bible reading plan “just happened” to be that morning on the exact story in 2 Kings 2 of Elijah passing his mantle to Elijah. My Dad prayed for me that day the same prayer as Rick and Todd for a double portion anointing to be released over my life.
There is an impartation of “the Presence” that can be released from person to person. If you want to grow deeper in “the Presence” the best way to get there besides your own time with God is to spend time with those who are further in than you. Elijah could impart to Elisha and Elisha had an increase of anointing because of it.
Don’t get me wrong, this is not just about the right timing to rub shoulders with someone, it’s about a diligent pursuit and faithful obedience. You can have someone pray for you but squander what they impart. Elijah said this was not an easy ask. An impartation for a double portion will send you into a process of trials and tests with power and strength to endure.
Seek “the Presence” and anointing of the Spirit with all you have. An impartation will take you further than you can go alone, but it will cost you to steward what you receive.
Lord Jesus, I look to You to release a double portion anointing. I want more of You. Let me steward and protect what You deposit in my life. Thank You for others who breakthrough ahead of me and release impartation. In Your name, amen.

Amazing testimony! So touching and awe-inspiring... Thank You, blessed Lord, for your precious impartations and may we be prepared and equipped to receive them and faithfully carry them.
Tears welled up in my eyes as I read this. God is so faithful to accomplish that which He has planned and promised over each life. Before you knew your destiny, He knew every step, every prayer every tear you would cry on the pathway to who you would become. He placed in within you when you were created. You are such a blessing to us John. 🙏🏻♥️
