Day #191 - Meditation
The Presence - A Devotional for living in Thanksgiving, Worship and Wonder
“May these words of my mouth and this meditation of my heart be pleasing in your sight, Lord, my Rock and my Redeemer.”
Psalms 19:14 NIV
Have you ever spent time in meditation?
Just the idea of meditation within Christian circles seems to be under appreciated. Meditation is much more en vogue within new age and eastern religious circles these days. But meditation is a very Christian idea and very important for those who practice “the Presence.”
New age and eastern religious meditation has to do with the emptying of oneself. But Christian meditation has to do with fullness and completeness. The Christian who meditates is full of the Holy Spirit and fills their mind by focusing on the Word of God and the nature of who God is.
David’s prayer in Psalm 19 is so beautiful and it culminates with this request that the words of his mouth and the mediation of his heart would be pleasing in the sight of the Lord. David knows the Lord is listening to the words of our mouth and the meditation of our hearts. God is present with us. When we spend time meditating on God’s Word and God’s nature, we become aware of His presence.
Meditation is about giving ourselves fully to one focus that we might be fully consumed with God. To meditate you must remove distractions and get to a quiet place. In meditation you start to focus and pray on one Scripture seeking to extract every morsel of spiritual nutrient from it. Or you may focus on one aspect of God’s character and nature. As you do this and you pray and think upon our precious Lord, you will become more aware of how near He is.
In our busy lives we may read Scripture, listen to Scripture or even memorize Scripture. But the greatest power is when we begin to meditate on the Scriptures. Our mind and our affections are shaped by who God is and His holy Word. Pray and sing the Scriptures. Repeat them over and over. And give your mind to God fully. May His perfect Word form your desires and be the meditation of Your heart.
Lord God, teach me to meditate on who You are and upon Your holy Word. Fill me up. Fill my mind with Your thoughts. I want to please and touch Your heart with my words and meditation. You are my Rock and my Redeemer. There is no one like You. Shape me and mold me in Your presence as I fix my mind upon You. In Jesus name, amen.

I love my daily times of quiet with the Lord. My place if peace. They keep my focus on Him and not the problems of that day or earthly concerns. 🙏🏻♥️
