Day #176 - Preeminent
The Presence - A Devotional for living in Thanksgiving, Worship and Wonder
“He is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn over all creation. For by Him all things were created that are in heaven and that are on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or dominions or principalities or powers. All things were created through Him and for Him. And He is before all things, and in Him all things consist. And He is the head of the body, the church, who is the beginning, the firstborn from the dead, that in all things He may have the preeminence. For it pleased the Father that in Him all the fullness should dwell, and by Him to reconcile all things to Himself, by Him, whether things on earth or things in heaven, having made peace through the blood of His cross.”
Colossians 1:15-20 NKJV
If you could answer the question: what is life all about in one word, what would you say?
Now I know there is this idea among Christians, that Jesus is always the answer. It can become cliche or almost spoken in veiled sarcasm. We might become overly familiar with this idea that Jesus is always the answer, but if we could summarize what life is all about in one word, it would be Jesus.
In Paul’s letter to the church at Colosse he shows us the grandest vision of who Jesus is. Jesus is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn over all creation, everything is created by Him, through Him and for Him. He is before all things and in Him all things consist or hold together. He is the head of the church and the firstborn of the dead. All the fullness is in Christ and all things are reconciled through Him and by His blood on the cross.
Jesus is to have preeminence in our lives. Someone who is eminent is first. Someone who is preeminent is before the first. Someone who is eminent is important. Someone who is preeminent is the most important. Jesus is the most most important. I once heard Graham Cooke say that we have to think of God mostly in superlatives. This is certainly true about Jesus Christ. He is the best, the highest, the greatest, the ultimate and the supreme.
Before there was anything there was Jesus. To have His presence in our lives is to be valued as the greatest treasure because He is the One who this life is all about. Life exists by Him, through Him and for Him. To be a person of “the Presence” let Jesus be preeminent in Your life.
Lord Jesus, have preeminence in my life. You are the highest, the greatest and the ultimate. This life is by You, for You and through You. My world is held together in You. You are my life. There is no one I desire but You. Be exalted in my life. Thank You for reconciling me to God and sharing Your self with me. In Your precious name, amen.

Once we understand who Jesus really is, everything makes sense, everything. ❤✝❤🕊❤
