Day #151 - Trinity and Unity
The Presence - A Devotional for living in Thanksgiving, Worship and Wonder
“There is one body and one Spirit, just as you were called to one hope when you were called; one Lord, one faith, one baptism; one God and Father of all, who is over all and through all and in all.”
Ephesians 4:4-6 NIV
Can you wrap your head around the mystery of the Trinity?
God is complex in His simplicity and simple in His complexity. The holy Trinity is a great and beautiful mystery that we embrace by faith because of the teaching of the Scriptures. It might be hard to think about before bed for too long, that God is one in one sense and three in another.
The Apostle Paul writes to the Ephesians about what it means to be the church. In his teaching in Ephesians 4, he mentions the importance of unity and oneness in the church. He says their is one body, one Spirit, one hope, one Lord, on faith, one baptism and one God and Father of all. There is a clear theme of oneness.
There is a unity in God. He is One. There is to be a unity in the church. We are one. But as Paul writes this, He says there is one Spirit, one Lord (Jesus Christ) and one God and Father of all. In God’s oneness there is a three-ness. In His three-ness there is a oneness.
How does Paul conclude this verse? He says of God the Father of all, He is over all and through all and in all. This is not just a theological truth to try and grapple with to understand. This is a reality for us to know God as Father, Son and Holy Spirit. This is the truth in which our faith is rooted. And this God that we call Father is the be “the Presence” we are to encounter. For after all He is everywhere and in everything.
This doesn’t mean that we believe some type of pantheistic idea that God is in physical matter, but that He dwells everywhere. We can access God from anywhere through Jesus and by the Holy Spirit. As our faith and churches are united around the truth of who God is and who we are, there is a glory for us to know the God who dwells everywhere. To live in “the Presence” we must stay anchored to the truth of who God is and who the church is.
As the church we need to be unified around who the person of God and who we are as one church. God is the Father, the Son and the Spirit. What a beautiful reality to behold our God and to know His presence.
Holy Father, I love you adore You. I want to know You more and behold You as the One who is over all, through all and in all. There is no one like You. There is no glory like the glory of Your Son and the presence of Your Spirit. I worship You. I choose to be in unity with the church around who You are. May I glorify Your name. In Jesus name, amen.

Yes and Amen. ♥️🙏🏻
