Day #104 - Water to Wine
The Presence - A Devotional for Living in Thanksgiving, Worship and Wonder
“What Jesus did here in Cana of Galilee was the first of the signs through which he revealed his glory; and his disciples believed in him.”
John 2:11 NIV
How mind blowing would it be to have seen Jesus turn water to wine?
Jesus’ first miracle was to turn water to wine at a wedding in Cana of Galilee. But I can hardly imagine what it would be like to witness this miracle. How amazing to see water change in front of your eyes to wine. Richard Crashaw, an English poet, said "The conscious water saw its God (Creator) and blushed.” To see water and then a moment later see and taste wine, must have been an astonishing experience. How amazing it would be to drink and taste of something that completely had it’s nature change.
This miracle was so impressive because Jesus’ mother Mary came to him and asked him to take care of this problem. Jesus’ reply was that it was before His appointed time to do miracles. There was something about the faith of Mary that pulled a miracle into her situation even before it was in a sense supposed to happen.
Which poses the question? How much effect can our faith have on the timing of God? It appears that Jesus is moved by our faith and demand we put on Him as the Anointed One. I believe in God’s sovereignty and full knowledge of the future, but somehow we can become complacent and resign with an improper understanding of God’s omniscience. In God’s foreknowledge, He’s made room for us to effect the outcome of events in our lives.
Only Jesus could have changed this water to wine and Mary getting in the presence of Jesus revealed the glory of God. Signs, wonders and miracles reveal the manifest presence or glory of God. More signs that Jesus does reveal more glory. Sometimes we get hyper-spiritual about how not seeing miracles allows us to glorify God more. It is true that we should glorify God no matter what signs we experience, however this passage teaches that the miraculous releases the glory of God.
Go to Jesus with whatever needs you have, even if it seems like its not the right time. Don’t try and figure out His will before asking Him to intervene. Your need might become an opportunity for the glory of God to manifest and even more people to encounter “the Presence.”
Lord Jesus, turn my water to wine! Let my faith rise, that I might move your heart like Mary did. Even if I don’t think its the right time, may I bring my circumstances to You and see what You will do. You have power over nature to do signs, wonders and miracles. All things are possible with You. Show me Your glory through Your signs! In Your name, amen!

Yes, show me your glory Lord. 🙏🏻♥️
AMEN!!!
